STUDENT SUCCESS THROUGH SENATE SERVICE
Student Success Through Senate Service is about connecting SMU students to career-advancing resources, both on campus and beyond. My training as a Resident Assistant, Orientation Leader, and Student Senator has given me extensive awareness of the opportunities that exist for students, and I want those opportunities to be known and available to every single one of us. Creating opportunities for SMU students to expand their career potential is a challenge that I am passionate about persuing. I have already begun working towards this objective in areas including the Hegi Family Career Development Center, Residence Life and Student Housing, and the creation of a new SMU calendar website which will more effectively connect students to all on-campus events and opportunities.

To Whom It May Concern, Please consider this letter as an open recommendation of Nicki Fletcher toward her campaign for SMU’s Student Body Vice President. I have known Nicki for two years; during which time she led numerous initiatives aimed at improving students' awareness of the Hegi Career Center. Improving the student experience through creating greater awareness of opportunities is a major component of her campaign, and it is one of her many strengths.
What has always impressed me most about Nicki, is her ability to develop rapport and respect with SMU faculty, staff, parents and students. I have worked with Nicki during times of significant change and instability for SMU, and she always took the initiative by designing outreach programs for the Division of Student Affairs to ensure that students who had the greatest needs did not slip through the cracks brought about by multiple changes in policy and procedure. This example is a testament to Nicki’s professional traits of leadership for change and impactful communication in times of ambiguity.
I have noticed in Nicki a leadership acumen and an organizational savvy that is not only helpful in regard to student development, she also has a managerial/leadership element that permeates projects and programs that are well advanced beyond her years. Her warm, jovial, interpersonal style and her attention to detail make her an asset to campus-wide programs that require group decision making and collaborative change-management facilitation. Nicki always elicits the highest feedback regarding her ability to facilitate a group’s growth and development---she is best described as engaging, enthusiastic and informative.
She is always highly regarded by students, faculty and staff and is continuously called upon as a valuable conduit to whom they could turn when they have challenges with planning, strategy, logistics, or student development best practices. She is one of the most well-connected and best-networked SMU student leaders I have ever met. Moreover, our students and staff value her congenial manner and her genuine care for their professional satisfaction and personal benefit.
As an executive level university administrator who has hired and supervised hundreds of higher education and corporate leaders, and who has worked very closely with SMU’s Student Body Presidents and Vice Presidents for 10 years; I can honestly tell you that Nicki Fletcher has the creative vision, the intellectual capacity, the strategic competencies, and interpersonal leadership traits one must possess for successfully leading an entire student body into 21st Century prominence.
She not only exhibits these positive traits on the job-- she is genuinely caring, helpful, inclusive, creative, hard- working and dedicated to the highest level of integrity and character as a person.
Nicki has my highest recommendation. If you have any questions about her capabilities or qualifications, please contact me.

"Nicki is one of the most hardworking individuals I've met on campus! She's heavily involved, giving her great perspective as to the changes this campus needs to see. Having worked with her, I've seen the tremendous amount of effort she puts into the things she works on, how organized and efficient she is, and the amount of committment and passion she has. She listens to others and offers her own ideas, and works to make compromises. Nicki is an incredibly talented woman and is a great example of a leader on campus!"
